Close Avenue

Close Ave, formally known as Cussen House from 1969 till July 2008, is currently providing temporary CRU style accommodation and ongoing support for six people with mild intellectual disabilities aged between their early 40's to their 60's.  Five of the people resided in the original Cussen House, and one person moved in from Jarvis Lodge (a CRU on site - now demolished).

Five of the residents attend Wallara Community programs and one gentleman is employed at Wallara Industries.  Much effort has been and is given by the support staff during this transition stage to ensure that everyone's needs and wants are met including health, recreation, leisure, spiritual and family contact needs.  Ongoing support is also given to support and assist people to meet the areas identified by the people in their annual ISP's.

The recent changes due to redevelopment has meant that there is increased discussion with the residents and families. The residents have ample opportunity to have a say in all aspects of their daily lives and are constantly updated with news regarding what's happening with the site and with the progress of the accommodation which they will eventually move into.
