Roy Close
The residents of Roy Close are all leading very full and busy lives. Three of the residents work in supported employment and enjoy going to work and earning their own money. The other two people attend day services and enjoy meeting up with friends and doing different things out in the community, such as gardening, craft, learning computer skills and banking.
There is a focus on increasing independent living skills and providing opportunities and links to different alternatives for learning and participation within the community.
Families have an ongoing and positive involvement in the lives of the people who live at Roy Close. Lots of fun stuff happens on the weekends at Roy Close either doing their own thing independently, catching up with family or out together with other housemates. Some of the things the people enjoy are going out fishing, going to the beach, picnics, BBQ's and the movies. A game of pool at the local pool hall is a weekly event and so is a game of cricket or kicking the footy around the backyard. Some of the residents also play weekly basketball, bowling and go to water aerobics at the local swimming pool.
The house has been opened since 2001 and sits on a large one acre block and the people help out around the garden every now and then but volunteers would always be welcome.
