Wallara Volunteers

meet some of our volunteers

current volunteer roles

Wallara’s volunteers are a diverse group of individuals who bring a wealth of skills and experience to our organisation.

Young people, older people, teams of staff from business and community all come together from all walks of life and cultures with one main goal:  to contribute to the betterment of human welfare through generosity of spirit.

Our volunteers are the lifeblood of our organisation and we value and acknowledge their contribution.

At Wallara we are constantly looking for Volunteers as there are always rewarding opportunities available to participate in group activities or assist on a one-on-one basis.

So Who Are We Looking For?

We don’t need an Olympic Swimmer to escort someone to the swimming pool— we don’t even need you to dip your toe in the water—we just need someone who would be willing to spend a few hours per week to join someone on an outing which has been chosen as an activity which has therapeutic benefit or just makes them feel good.

It would be nice if Don Burke brought his team of gardeners to assist at some of our residencies, but all we’re looking for is someone who can mow a lawn, weed a garden, plant a few flowers and watch the people around them grow as much as the garden they enjoy.

So, you don’t like gardening (it’s not everyone’s cup of tea) but you’re a bit of a DIY enthusiast.  Great!  We’ve got painting, minor repair work, window cleaning…  you name, we’ve got it.

Bit of a coffee connoisseur?  Well, you’ll be pushed to find a better cappuccino than served at our own Potter Coffee café in Potter Street.  The café is manned three times per week, for limited hours, by a team from our Working Choices Program under the supervision of Wallara staff.  We’d love to be able to extend these hours to encourage the community to visit our site and get to know us better, so we’re looking for people who have experience working in a coffee shop environment.

Can’t work the coffee machine but still enjoy the coffee?  How about spending an hour or so just visiting the local coffee shop and having a chat with someone who isn’t able to enjoy that simple pleasure on their own.

Volunteering can be as frequent or infrequent as you wish.  It can be on weekdays or on weekends.

The opportunities are endless and we’d love to hear from you.   If you’d like to hear more about volunteering with Wallara, please contact our volunteer co-ordinator.
