CEO Update for families April 9, 2020

Hi everyone,

Another update to keep us all on the same page through this unusual time.

Day Programs – as you all know, these were closed on Tuesday 24 March. Since that closure we have started supporting some former Day Service clients 1:1 at their home or at some of our sites where this support is essential, and that will continue post Easter. The position with Victorian State schools is that if students can stay home they must, and that is our position as well. So the 1:1 offering is only provided where the support is essential for that client and family, and where physical distancing can be ensured. For more details on this offering please call your Support Lead (or Tammy Patterson on 0488 347 118).

When we are able to re-open Day Programs we will be sure to let you know and our existing clients will return to their normal day programs post COVID-19.

Annual Report – I am pleased to share with you all our latest Annual Report which you can all see at the link below. Some great stories here to hopefully provide you with some enjoyable reading while you are in lockdown and stuck inside -

Online Learning – As I flagged recently, we are building some online programs that will be delivered through the internet to a laptop or computer at home. These will be billed at NDIS prices just like the physical program we have long provided. So if the class is 1:4 then it will be billed at the NDIS 1:4 price. Some classes will be educational, and some will be more social, and we are planning to grow these over time. But our goal is to make them high quality and valuable for every client just like the programs we have been delivering for many years at our sites.

We are making them as simple as possible to access to cater for a wide variety of needs and even providing IT assistance to help everyone connect in. We plan to launch these just to Wallara clients from 27 March and you will receive a flyer soon with details on which classes we are offering and how to book them.

Last one from me today is to update you on our workforce plans though this period because some families have asked me about it. I am pleased to report that the Job Keeper program has enabled us to keep our Day Service staff deployed through this period and we have identified a list of projects and training for them over the next few months which will make us a stronger service when we all get to the other side of the crisis. Our staff team are incredibly important to us and they are of course critical to the supports we can provide so we are very pleased to be able to keep them engaged and working on projects to keep us improving. The Day Service staff team will also provide valuable back up and support to our teams in Residential and Logistics which continue to be very busy.

Thanks everyone. I hope you enjoy your Easter break as much as possible given the circumstances. Stay safe and we will keep you updated as much as we can.

Best wishes,

Phil Hayes-Brown

Chief Executive Officer.
